Interesting thought on graduate tax. I think my view is that it was the least of several evils of which there were many... I would now object to a graduate tax as I did pay fees, albeit the first generation ones.
It is sad to work in a university and hear otherwise inspirational people say "and tuition fees will be uncapped soon" and what they plan to do with the money. Especially when in context of inclusion and spending money where their mouths are with regards to legal and talk of fair access for all!
I agree re 50% target, people should go to uni cos they want to, whenever in life that is, I think a wider range of different people at uni is a good thing and improves it for everyone. I hate that so many jobs require a degree as a purely snobby thing - and it's starting to become that one needs a Masters to increase beyond that.
I think the 6 year phase out of fees is a reasonable compromise, it's honest and I appreciate that, I would really like to see that happen and I do wonder if the LibDems got some kind of coalition going how high that would be up the priorities list when it came to it... Universities are TOTALLY counting on the fees.
